2020 Camp Guide for Kids

It's that time of year again and parents are on the hunt for the perfect camp to keep kids busy this summer break and your local Macaroni Kid is the place to find one that will entertain, educate and enrich your little noodles!  From Academics and STEM, to adventure, arts, cooking, animal lovers,  performing arts, sports, and special needs - we have a complete list of area camps with everything parents need to know!

With this summer’s all-new Camp Invention® program, your child’s creativity will reach new heights!

A nationally acclaimed summer program from the National Inventors Hall of Fame® (NIHF), Camp Invention provides children in grades K-6 with opportunities to collaborate and explore STEM concepts through fun, hands-on challenges designed to build confidence, persistence and creative problem-solving skills. Since 1990, this one-of-a-kind program has been helping children unlock their potential to become creators, innovators and entrepreneurs.

Each year, our education team develops a new, action-packed Camp Invention experience that is directly influenced by world-changing inventors, our NIHF Inductees.

With our 2020 program, Elevate, campers will take on four exciting new challenges.

West Michigan camps will be held at Reeths-Puffer Intermediate school in Muskegon and Oakwood Intermediate School in Allendale.

🖥️ Camp Curious: The Grand Rapids Public Museum Camp Curious allows youth grades pre-K through 9 the opportunity to learn and grow through projects and activities.  Click HERE for more information and to register.  

2020 COVID Update: Camp Curious has gone virtual!   Camp Curious virtual sessions will utilize the video streaming platform Zoom and the virtual platform SeeSaw. 


Enviroworks Mini Day Camp: A 3-day science and history, morning day camp (9:15-11:45am) for children ages 6-11 held at the Lakeshore Museum Center in Muskegon. Campers will explore various topics including Predators and Prey and Marshmallow Science, in small groups of 8 or less children, mostly outdoors.  To register, call 231-722-0278 or click HERE.  Camp runs July 28-30, 2020.

2020 COVID Update: Camp is still ON!  Please send your child with a snack and full water bottle as due to added safety precautions, snacks will not be served.  


🖥️ ExploreHope Summer Science Camp: Summer Science Camps started 20 years ago with Tod Gugino’s dream of sharing the love for science. Today, ExploreHope provides over 50 fun-filled educational camps for grades K-12. For the complete schedule and registration link go HERE.

2020 COVID Update: Unfortunately, in person summer camp sessions have been cancelled.  Weekly social media activity posts will continue, and "Exploration Box" elementary virtual camp will begin in June - at this time registration is full, but you can email explore@hope.edu for information on the wait list.  "Pop up camps" will run if conditions allow in July and early August.  See the most updated details HERE.


🖥️ Van Andel Institute for Education offers unique summer camps for students in grades 2-12. Students will learn to think and act like scientists with hands-on, interactive investigations. Expect to see anything from exploring the world of fossils, learning what it takes to live in space, Hogwarts and Harry Potter themed, Mission to Mars, water exploration and science and even crime scene forensics. WINGS Summer Enrichment Program offers a variety of day programs including academic subjects, theater/dance/performing arts, culinary, art & culture, STEM/STEAM, and more!  WINGS is geared toward kids in grades 1-6 during the 2019-2020 school year.  Programming takes places at Muskegon Community College and lunch is provided during all-day programming.  See class options and register HERE.

Art Creation Station Day Camp: Discover art through 6-session day camps at Art Creation Station in Muskegon.  For more information or to register, call 231-719-8222, send an email, or visit the website and click on "event registration".  

2020 COVID Update: Camp is still ON!  Class size will be limited to a maximum of 8 students per session to facilitate safe social distancing.  


Muskegon Catholic Central offers a variety of music, theater, art, STEM, sports, and even sign language day camps for students who have completed kindergarten through 9th grade.  A lineup of camps and registration information can be found HERE.

Camp GenevaLife is busy. You may notice there are more opportunities for your kids than ever before – ways to connect, stay active, get better, succeed, and achieve. These are important. And yet there’s a part of us, and our kids, that yearns for a little space. A break in the busy and doing – a place to be free. Camp Geneva meets kids here. Located in West Michigan just 25 minutes north of Grand Rapids, Pine Ridge Bible Camp offers overnight camps for children, youth, and the developmentally disabled. Their programs are uniquely designed for each age with a variety of activities. Go Karting, Watersports, Horsemanship, High Adventure, Ninja Warrior Course, and more await at this life changing week of camp!

Camp Beechpoint is located Northern shore of Dumont Lake, with over 100 acres of forest and shoreline.  An action-oriented program for boys and girls ages 8-14. Our age specific approach provides recreation and teaching appropriate for each camper and a new experience every year! Cabin groups are divided by age and become the “family group” for the week. Campers go with both of their cabin leaders from activity to activity. Sessions are from Sunday to Friday. It will be the greatest week of the summer!  Ready to learn more and enroll?  Click HERE!  

2020 COVID Update: Camp Beechpoint has made changes to our camp schedule and the number of campers we minister to each week. Camp Beechpoint has decided to postpone the start of Summer Camp until July 5, serving up to 56 overnight campers per week (7 cabins). Horse Camp has been canceled, and the number of weeks of Day Camp has been reduced.  For the most up to date information, please visit our COVID information page.


Camp BlodgettSince 1921, Camp Blodgett has been enriching the lives of youth in West Michigan. Their summer camp serves kids ages 8-17 who live in Kent and Ottawa Counties. Summer camp experiences include physical activities like swimming, hiking and biking, but we also ensure that campers are exposed to learning opportunities with activities that may be new to them such as archery, canoeing and workshops on a variety of topics to keep their minds active and growing. Camp Blodgett will host seven 5-day overnight camp sessions this summer for kids ages 8-17 years old who live or attend school in Kent or Ottawa Counties in West Michigan. For more details go HERE. Sessions 1 and 2 are a part of Camp Sunshine. Since 1983, Camp Sunshine has been offering people ages 12 – 50 with developmental disabilities the opportunity to attend summer camp in a safe, caring and inclusive environment. We offer 4 day/3 night camp sessions at two locations in Michigan--Camp Blodgett in West Olive and Camp Henry in Newaygo.

Camp HenryJust 35 minutes north of Grand Rapids, Camp Henry offers anything from mini-camps and day camps to frontier, teen only and more. Camp Newaygo: Camp Newaygo is a great place to introduce the whole family to the great outdoors. Start a life-long love of camping with our Mom and Me and Family Camp Weekends. Girls can grow their resiliency, establish a love of the outdoors, and make long-lasting friendships in our overnight camp sessions. Girls and boys can enjoy days of outdoor fun, centered around weekly adventures. If you loved camp growing up or missed out on those great memories, you can even join one of our all-inclusive Girlfriends' Getaway! Camp Newaygo is located on over 100 acres at the edge of the Mainistee Forest, on a chain of four lakes. 2020 COVID Update: At this time, Camp Newaygo is moving forward with modificationsSpecifically:

  • We have postponed the start of our Girls' Overnight Camp to run from June 28th through August 1st
  • We have cancelled co-ed day camp.
  • We have moved our mom and me weekends to August 
  • We are not currently accepting new registrations for summer 
  • We are monitoring guidance from the CDC, the American Camp Association, and the state of Michigan and guidance from health officials to shape our summer 2020 program.

Perfect for ages 3-18, Lake Michigan Dance Academy offers a variety of Summer Camps running April - August. "Great dance studio for all ages and skill levels. Dedicated and professional teachers who want to see every dancer succeed. They offer classes and work outs all school year and have summer camps and groups."

Camp Break A Leg theater, dance, and performing arts camp provides students entering grades 2-8 an opportunity to learn about on-stage performing, backstage work, singing, dancing, and acting at their Muskegon camp.  Click HERE to register.  Registration ends when all spots are filled, so don't delay! Scholarships and sibling discounts are available.  






Camp Sunshine (Through Camp Blodgett & Camp Henry)Since 1983, Camp Sunshine has been offering people ages 12 – 50 with developmental disabilities the opportunity to attend summer camp in a safe, caring and inclusive environment. 

2020 COVID Update: Although Camp Sunshine will not be hosting traditional camp this year, our staff and volunteer leaders are engaged in designing alternate Sunshine experiences.  You can follow us on social media for updates. 


Indian Trails Camp is offering day camp during the summer to serve children and young adults (ages 5-26) who want to experience the joy of camp, but who may not be ready to stay overnight for a full week. Cost is $400 per week and includes lunch and snack. Each camper may register for a maximum of 2 weeks for this program which runs from June - August 2020. The camper may be added to the waiting list for additional sessions in the event that an opening becomes available. However, priority will be given to a camper who has not yet attended 2 weeks.

PEPPER OAKS EQUESTRIAN CENTER


Pepper Oaks Equestrian Center is offering 3-day kid's camps perfect for ages 5-14. Each session will have a maximum participation of 8 campers so contact us today to sign up.

2020 COVID Update: Day Camps are moving forward as scheduled.  Social distancing will be practiced during all camps and campers who feel ill or show signs of illness should not attend camp.  


Harbor Humane Society has a line-up of action packed, animal filled, fantastically fun SPARK camps. These camps are for kids interested in animals and humane education. Registration is now open HERE.

🖥️ Humane Society of West Michigan knows the importance of educating children through experience. We offer camps throughout the year to educate children on animal welfare, as well as giving them an enjoyable experience. 2020 COVID Update: In order to protect the health and safety of our campers, staff, and animals, we have made the difficult decision to move our camp to an online platform. But that won't stop us! We still plan to offer all of the same fun and educational programs that we would typically do in person but now virtually.


Legacy Stables "Own a Horse Camp" is located just 15 minutes from the hustle and bustle of downtown Grand Rapids.  At Legacy Stables & Karin’s Horse Connection we love to share our little slice of heaven with anyone who seeks to experience the joy of a human-horse connection. We offer horse lovers a safe, relaxing and family friendly environment to learn and make memories. While we cater to new and inexperienced riders, we serve all ages and skill levels.  Our highly qualified staff works with over 20 well-trained, gentle ponies and horses.  For ages 6 and up.  Spring and summer day camps available; limited spots available so click HERE to register today!

2020 COVID Update: We plan to continue our 'Own-A-Horse' Camp as planned with a few modifications:

  • Camp begins June 8th with a maximum of 10 students per session
  • We are outdoors and have LOTS of room to social distance around the stables.
  • For the majority of the camp session, students will be split into smaller groups of 3-4 students
  • Students will be asked to bring a mask to wear whenever there are activities where social distancing is more difficult
  • Equipment is disinfected between each student and students will be required to wash/sanitize their hands between activities
