FREE Muskegon Teen Summer Public Safety Youth Academy

The City of Muskegon Public Safety Office is launching a new program called the Muskegon Public Safety Youth Academy (MPSYA) for summer 2020. Students will have an opportunity to interact and be trained by public safety personnel, as well as learn about various departments and agencies that work closely with police and fire departments. This program is intended for any student aged 12-15 that is interested in potentially becoming a police officer, firefighter or would like to learn more about the criminal justice system and how to be more involved in the community. 

This program is FREE but space is limited to up to 10 youth. Preference will be given to those living or attending school in the City of Muskegon; however, others will be added in the order their application was received if space allows. 

All interested students must: 

  • Turn in completed application no later than July 29, 2020 
  • Successfully complete the Youth Academy Interview 
  • Be in good standing in the community 
  • Be willing to attend the entire week long academy 
  • Be able to complete light physical activity 
  • Follow Rules & Code of Conduct as stated in the application 


Participants will receive:

  • An understanding of community safety 
  • Information on agency resources 
  • Hands-on police and fire safety experiences 
  • Lunch each day 
  • Participation T-shirt 
  • Leadership skills 
  • Graduation certificate
